Rookie's Home Going
Hello All
The city of Macon, Ga. and also the American Pool Checker Association lost one of its’ best players on March 25, 2024 in the person of Mr. James Lyles Jr. (Rookie)
Mr. Lyles who was better known and more affectionately called “Rookie” was an “up and coming” star in pool checkers and also a very nice individual.
His “home going” service was held on April 2, 2024.
Although this young brother departed this life at the tender age of 34, he made his checker presence felt in the city of Macon and throughout the A.P.C.A. over the last 12 years.
In his 34 years of life he proved himself a force to be reckoned with in the world of checkers
He won three A.P.C.A. division championships while still in his 20s.
He won the “Gold Bar” division in 2012 at the age of 22.
He won the “Junior Masters” division in 2015 at the age of 25.
He won the “Masters” division in 2019 at the age of 29.
As A.P.C.A. President and also as a friend of this young and talented checker player (He called me “Uncle Al”), I ask all checker players to join me in bidding this star player “fare the well” and “Happy Checker Playing” in Heaven.
I also wish to express our condolences to his family and friends.
Yours’ Truly
Albert Harrison -- A.P.C.A. President
