Origin of name "Pool" Empty Origin of name "Pool"

No one really knows where the name "Pool" come from. Some point to "Spanish Pool", but that name is also suspect.
Many countries play the game, but they call it simply "draughts". As usual there are variations of the rules, cosmetic (who moves first, mirror board) or technical (number of moves to win 3x1). The name "Pool" got excepted as the international name, perhaps because it's nuteral, not tied to any specific country (like Uganda draughts, Zimbabwe draughts, etc.)
